Instacart recently cut base pay for shoppers from $7 to $4 per batch of orders. When we first started my wife's account in 2020, you still got mileage pay in addition to your batch pay. A Portland, Oregon, woman was awarded $1 million following a racist incident in 2020, KGW reported. Rose Wakefield said a gas station employee told her, "I don't serve Black people." While there, she said a gas station employee on site, identified as Nigel Powers, ignored her multiple times, KGW reported citing court documents. Before Wakefield left, she said the gas attendant scoffed at her saying, "I don't serve Black people," the outlet reported. "I went to a gas station to get gas and service, and I wasn't served," Wakefield, 63, told KGW.
PORTLAND, Ore. — A jury has awarded an Oregon woman $1 million in damages after finding she was discriminated against by a gas station employee who told her, “I don’t serve Black people.”The Multnomah County jury’s award this week to Portland resident Rose Wakefield, 63, included punitive damages of $550,000. When she tried to ask for assistance, he said, “I’ll get to you when I feel like it,” according to Kafoury. Kafoury said as she was leaving, Wakefield asked Powers why he refused to help her and that he said, “I don’t serve Black people.”Rose Wakefield. It was a terrible, terrible confrontation between me and this guy.”During the following week, Wakefield complained twice to managers, but her phone calls were largely disregarded, Kafoury said.
A Hawaii couple was criminally charged with defrauding investors out of more than $28 million with bogus claims about building a watercraft that could partially submerge to give passengers underwater views, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. The couple was charged with securities fraud, conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud in an indictment unsealed this week. The couple was also sued by the Securities Exchange Commission for fraud in August over their actions in connection with their company, Semisub Inc., based in Hawaii. An attorney for Jamey Jackson was not listed. The couple reportedly sold securities for the company to investors across the country, including in Pennsylvania and California, where they had been barred from selling securities in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
